Technically speaking, specific to software functionality, No.  However, the decision of when to take this action is generally determined by the Course Teacher/Instructor.

Students do not need to complete all the Learn and Practice exercises before attempting the Validate exam. Working on the Learn and Practice exercises will help to develop the confidence to finish the Validate exam with success; an indicator of a student's readiness for certification.
